Football games are played on a blockish field that measures 120 yards( 110 m) long and 531⁄3 yards(48.8 m) wide. Lines marked along the ends and sides of the field are known as the end lines and sidelines. thing lines are pronounced 10 yards(9.1 m) inward from each end line. 

 

 Weighted pylons are placed the sidelines on the inside corner of the corners with the thing lines and end lines. White markings on the field identify the distance from the end zone. Inbound lines, or hash marks, are short resemblant lines that mark off 1- yard(0.91 m) supplements. Yard lines, which can run the range of the field, are pronounced every 5 yards(4.6 m). A one- yard-wide line is placed at each end of the field; this line is marked at the center of the two- yard line in professional play and at the three- yard line in council play. numbers that display the distance from the closest thing line in yards are placed on both sides of the field every ten yards.

 The football itself is an round ball, analogous to the balls used in rugby or Australian rules football. At all situations of play, the football is inflated to 121⁄2 to 131⁄2 pounds per forecourt inch( 86 to 93 kPa) and weighs 14 to 15 ounces( 400 to 430 g); beyond that, the exact confines vary slightly. In professional play the ball has a long axis of 11 to 111⁄4 elevation( 28 to 29 cm), a long circumference of 28 to 281⁄2 elevation( 71 to 72 cm), and a short circumference of 21 to 211⁄4 elevation( 53 to 54 cm). In council and high academy play the ball has a long axis of 107⁄8 to 117⁄16 elevation(27.6 to29.1 cm), a long circumference of 273⁄4 to 281⁄2 elevation( 70 to 72 cm), and a short circumference of 203⁄4 to 211⁄4 elevation.

Early history American football evolved from the sports of rugby and football. Rugby, like American football, is a sport in which two competing teams compete for control of a ball, which can be kicked through a series of goalposts or run into the opponent's goal area to score points.  The first American football game was played on November 6, 1869, between two university teams, Rutgers and Princeton. They consisted of 25 players per team and used a round ball that could not be lifted or carried. However, it could be kicked or hit with the feet, hands, head, or sides, with the goal being to get it into the opponent's goal. Rutgers won the game 6-4. University games were played for several years under the rules of the host school.
